Figure, the humanoid robotics company, has secured two of the most significant commercial orders in the history of robotics: a 20,000 unit contract with Amazon and a 50,000 unit deal with Mercedes Benz that together represent a revenue pipeline exceeding 14 billion dollars through 2029. The company is already producing more than 1,200 robots per month and recently validated the capabilities of its Figure 03 prototype, which researchers say demonstrates dexterity and task completion speeds that lead the category. The orders are being watched closely across the investment community as the clearest evidence yet that humanoid robots have crossed from science fiction prototype to commercial scale product.
The physical AI category, a term covering robotics, autonomous systems, and AI applied to real world tasks rather than purely digital ones, attracted a record level of dedicated investment funding in 2025 and is expected to draw more than 20 billion dollars in 2026, following the commercial validation represented by Figure's Amazon and Mercedes agreements. The sector has been described by multiple venture firms as the breakout investment category of 2026, with startups like SkildAI reaching a 14 billion dollar valuation and Boston Dynamics accelerating its enterprise robotics rollout.
For Amazon, the Figure robots are being integrated into fulfillment center operations as the company seeks to automate repetitive physical tasks and manage labor costs at scale. For Mercedes, the robots are being deployed in vehicle manufacturing processes where precision and repeatability are essential. The breadth of the two contracts, spanning e-commerce logistics and premium automotive manufacturing, suggests that general purpose humanoid robots are finding applications across a much wider range of industries than earlier, more specialized robotic systems were able to address.
